Why Geeks Should Write (Week 3)

Within the modern Western society we live in today, a larger emphasis is beginning to be placed on the importance of interdisciplinary studies. This is because the more knowledge that is pooled together from a variety of disciplines, the greater the flow of information is between them and the greater the understanding of the subject becomes overall. The study of computer programming, has become increasingly valuable as more and more fields within our technology-based society require an understanding of how to program a computer to perform the tasks required. Without this knowledge, the user must out-source their web-design platform to a geek capable of constructing the code for a fully functioning website. However, this usually creates a disconnect between the coder and the client's vision of the website's design because the code could easily become too sophisticated for the website to run properly or for the client to make adjustments to their website later on.  In addition, having a few designated areas for web coding allows for major issues to arise with servers that are prone to crashing from becoming over-worked while simultaneously trying to run huge programs. This can lead to major setbacks and a substantial loss of time and money for all parties involved.

In my opinion, the ability to code is a valuable asset for anyone looking to take advantage of our society's modern computers, which contain the capacity to perform a wide variety of complex tasks by following a series of algorithms.  That being said, I also believe that the use of language to code and implement these algorithms could be much more simplistic and easier to follow. If more knowledge was drawn from other disciplines such as linguistics and incorporated into the design of programming, I believe coding would become much more efficient and straight-forward for others to grasp, regardless of whether they took part in another discipline or not. This interdisciplinary approach to programming would hopefully make it easier for anyone to code their own designs into their program  (instead of having the coder plagiarize ideas that worked for other websites) while also lightening the burden on servers solely used for programming.  Therefore,  I believe it is important for 'geeks' to have a good understanding of how to write because the simpler the coding language used, the easier it is for other programmers as well as those new to programming, to interpret the code  either for learning purposes or for making any adjustments required.
